A Field Marketing Organization (FMO) is an intermediary between insurance carriers and agents. It contracts agents with carriers, supplies leads, training, and back-office support, and earns overrides on the business its downline agents produce.
Independent agents typically contract through an FMO to sell a carrier's Medicare products, rather than contracting with each carrier directly. In return, the FMO provides support and often value-added tools — including CRMs and quoting platforms.
The terms FMO, IMO, NMO, and MGA describe tiers in a carrier's distribution hierarchy and are used loosely across the industry; an FMO usually sits near the top, closest to the carrier.
Smart Agent ships with FMO and the rest of the Medicare workflow built in. See it on a 30-minute demo.
